“People who believe in silicone-related disease recommend that the scar capsule be removed along with the implant. This is called removal en bloc (as a whole). Silicone gel bleeds into the tissue, and particles of the envelope may break off and become imbedded in the scar as well. Removing as much as possible will lessen the chance of silicone-related complications. However, removal of the scar capsule may require a larger incision than simple explantation, and may cause more pain, more bleeding, and more disfigurement.”
