Death Prompts Public Dig Into Surgeon’s Past: Jessica Jones’s ‘Justice for Hillary’

    By Anthony BolstadDecember 17, 2023

A community is loudly looking for answers after the death of a beloved local mother.

More than 8,000 people are following a social media account created just 17 days ago, dedicated to the death of Hillary Ellington Brown, a late mother of three who died after undergoing cosmetic surgery from her husband.

The social media account seeks answers and information about the doctor involved, Dr. Benjamin J Brown, and the practice at which he worked, Restore Plastic Surgery, in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Jessica Jones is a TV series in which the eponymous heroine is an “ex-superhero turned private investigator.”

It’s also now the alias being used by a concerned local citizen, who says they want to bring about justice for Hillary.

Patient- and advocate-led social media groups have long been popular forums where unfiltered (and occasionally unverified) information can be shared with fewer restrictions and in a manner that surgeons and other subjects can’t easily alter or get removed.

The nature and growth of this particular group is unprecedented.

Hillary Ellington Brown was pronounced dead on November 28 in Santa Rosa County, Florida, after being taken off of life support. She had gone into cardiac arrest seven days earlier, on November 21, while being operated on by her plastic surgeon and husband, Dr. Benjamin J Brown.

The surgeon maintains that “all safety and medical protocols were strictly followed,” and that his own “deep shock and grief is only compounded by many mistruths circulating online and in the media,” Dr. Brown’s family shared in a media statement.
