In lieu of its annual statistics report, America’s largest plastic surgery society has released the results of a survey it conducted on 320 board-certified plastic surgeons.
Three out of four plastic surgeons report seeing more business over the past 18 months than they were prior to the pandemic, and 29% of surgeons said business has at least doubled.
That’s more than say patient levels are equal to or less than their pre-pandemic period (24%).
Among top drivers of the demand, surgeons say patients channeled unspent travel money into procedures (42%), that they’d “pay anything” to feel good and confident post-pandemic (40%), and were able to spend less and save more during the pandemic (33%).
Providers say 79% of patients are also now willing to spend more on cosmetic procedures.
Top Procedures Post-Pandemic, Jan 2021 – June 2022
Top in-demand procedures, according to the report are:
- Liposuction
- Facelift
- Breast augmentation
- Tummy tuck surgery
- Breast lift surgery
Despite increased patient interest from Jan 2021 – June 2022, when surveys were conducted, “many plastic surgeons are already reporting and bracing for a slowdown in patient demand” in the latter part of the year, due to inflation and economic uncertainty.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ annual report for 2021 is scheduled for release in 2023, and its “data collection and analysis process…is being reconfigured” now.
